She Kills Monsters

Qui Nguyen is a contemporary American playwright and screenwriter known for fusing high-stakes theatricality with emotional depth. He is the co-founder of the OBIE Award-winning Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company, a company that helped redefine what genre storytelling can look like on stage blending action, fantasy, and pop culture with urgent human stories. His plays include She Kills MonstersVietgone, and Poor Yella Rednecks, works that challenge traditional theatrical form while centering identity, family, and belonging. Beyond the stage, Nguyen has written for television and film, including co-writing Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon and serving as a writer and co-director on Strange World.

After the death of her younger sister, Agnes Evans is left sorting through what she thought she knew and what she missed. When she stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons world, Agnes is pulled into a fast-moving, imaginative adventure where reality and fantasy start speaking to each other in surprising ways. She Kills Monsters is an action-comedy with heart: part epic quest, part coming-of-age, part love letter to the people who help shape us. Expect humor, fight-driven storytelling, and emotional honesty as the play explores grief, identity, and the courage it takes to truly see someone.

Please note: This production uses the playwright’s original, unedited script and contains mature language and content.
